Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional Therapy is the application of the science of nutrition in achieving optimal health through evidence-based, bespoke nutrition and lifestyle guidance. It is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and well-being. Nutritional therapy can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine as they can complement and enhance each other.

The Functional Medicine model (that I have trained in throughout my BSc studies in Nutritional Therapy) is about adopting the healthcare approach to suit the needs of the 21st century.

It involves the understanding of the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms, and it aims to address the root cause of one’s health concerns – putting the client at the centre of the recovery by using prevention, as well as healing, to create an overall sense of wellness.

is it for you?

Are you regularly experiencing poor digestion, low energy, headaches, changing moods, cravings for sweets or stimulants, have been diagnosed with chronic conditions – or, are you simply feeling generally sluggish?

Are you stuck in a seemingly never-ending cycle of spending time and money investigating the causes of your symptoms, trying numerous diets and protocols without seeing results?

Nutritional Therapy can help, as it is not just about healthy eating. It is about investigating and understanding any potential imbalances that may be contributing to your specific health problems, and addressing the root causes with personalised advice to fit your lifestyle, so that you can reach your optimum health.

Elma Reka

is a registered practitioner BSc UWL, Dip BCNH, mBANT, CNHC, MBA, BA (Hons)

I founded Start in the Gut after spending several years working closely with many renowned functional medical doctors and practitioners in Singapore and London, at both personal and professional level while completing my BSc in Nutritional Therapy and additional qualifications in Nutrigenomics – the science of the relationship between genetics, nutrition and health.

During these times I have seen myself and clients achieve results they never thought were possible, so it is my mission to spread the knowledge and help as many people as possible.

Working with me

My area of expertise and interest is to support women with unresolved postpartum symptoms, and that is no coincidence. Having experienced debilitating and persistent postpartum symptoms myself, and with extensive prior professional experience in operations, I am drawn to making sure the fundamentals are in order and work seamlessly before anything else takes place.

The same applies to our health, only by addressing the foundations and strategically building upon them, it is possible to achieve the long-lasting health and wellbeing we desire.

My passion is to work with women who are at a loss as to why they experience persistent unresolved postpartum symptoms of fatigue, brain-fog, changing moods, hormonal imbalances and weight and help them end the cycle of spending precious time, money, and energy in many methods resulting in no major improvements.
